First Reconciliation - First Eucharist

First Reconciliation and First Eucharist Sacramental Preparation is completed either during our Family of Faith Program, Traditional Faith Formation classes or during the school day for the children who attend our parish school.   Incorporated into these classes are times for review of the practical aspects of receiving the Sacraments and visits to the church.  Older students who have not yet received the Eucharist for the first time are placed with their peers in an age appropriate setting. Registration and selection of Mass times to receive these Sacraments are done once enrolled in Faith Formation or at our Parish School.

Please arrive in the church 30 minutes prior to your child’s scheduled service.

Upon arrival in the church please find your child’s pew marker and be seated.  You will sit as a family, and your child will be ushered to the priest when it is their turn.  This is a sacred time for your child, and photographs are not allowed.

Children should wear mass appropriate attire.

Dates for First Eucharist:

May 11, 12, 18 and 19, 2019.  You will be given the opportunity to select your preferred Mass time during one of the parent meetings.

Banners and Practice:

First Eucharist banners that adorn your family’s pew will be made in a group setting during either the school day for our children attending the parish school or during a Family of Faith or Traditional Faith Formation session.

All of the children will practice prior to their First Eucharist during class time or session time.

Arrival for Day of First Eucharist:

Please arrive in the church 30 minutes prior to your child’s scheduled Mass.

Upon arrival in the church, please find your child’s banner and pew marker and be seated.  Your child needs to sit on the end of the pew closest to the aisle.  We will reserve one half of a pew per family.  If you need more room, please arrive early while your entire pew is still available.

Professional photographs will be taken individually with Fr. Parkes at the altar.  If your child arrives late there will not be another opportunity for these photos.   All photos will be available online at no cost to you.  The Masses will NOT be video-taped.

Dress Code:

For Girls:  White dresses that are knee-length or longer are preferred.  Shoulders must be covered.  Sleeveless dresses are fine (fabric extends past shoulder), but no “tank” or spaghetti strap dresses.  Girls are permitted to wear headpieces as long as they are intended for First Eucharist, such as small veils, ribbons, flowers, etc.  Tiaras and crowns will not be allowed.

Please avoid shoes taller than a low heel, as we do not want anyone to fall on the altar.

Gloves may not be worn, and girls are not allowed to carry anything, such as a rosary, purse or prayer book.

For Boys:  Typical dress for boys is a suit or sports jacket, but only a white dress shirt and tie are required.  Boys are not permitted to wear sneakers or sandals and may not carry anything such as a rosary or prayer book.
